Railway typography – French

Something I kept from a trip from Paris to Venice a long time ago. These placards were placed on the outside of the carriage so you knew where you were heading. An interesting variety of typefaces. Any ideas as to names…

I remember noticing the layout and typography of this placard at Paris Gare de Lyon…1972. In those times, I collected paper ephemera, labels from tins and food, matchboxes, and objets trouvees. I still have a small corner chunk of marble engraved with a Roman street name. What else have you collected?

Hi Carrie – if you look through the blog you will find other examples of printed ephemera – much like you I collected bits and pieces through the years. My passion is letterpress though. Happy New Year.
